Amazon Resort Ecuador in the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve invites you to explore the amazing nature and culture of one of the most diverse places on Earth.

Pirahna Lodge is a natural paradise located in the heart of the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve, about a 20-minute boat ride from Cuyabeno Lake (Laguna Grande). The hotel has 20 rooms, all with private bathroom, distributed in 7 cabins that accommodate up to 47 people. The superior cabins have balconies with hammocks which are ideal for resting after a long hike. The living room, or relaxation area, has comfortable couches, hammocks, and interesting reading material.

Tour Location


DAY 1. Quito - Lago Agrio - Cuyabeno

Arrive to Lago Agrio by bus or plane. Private land transportation from Lago Agrio to El Puente (bridge); approx. 2 hours. Canoe trip (2 hours) down the Cuyabeno River to our lodge as we explore this exciting region. Visit the Laguna Grande (Cuyabeno Lake) to swim and enjoy the sunset. (Lunch / Dinner) Optional night walk.

DAY 2. Cuyabeno

Paddle in a traditional canoe on Caimancocha Lake to explore its exuberant vegetation, much wildlife and  air plants clinging off the water's edge. Lunch at camp.Hike in the primary forest including lessons on the use of medicinal plants for survival, some subspecies that can be found in other latitudes, hence the benefit of this special learning experience. Before returning to camp, downtime at Laguna Grande, where you can swim and enjoy the sunset. If the water level is ideal, you may see pink dolphins surface. Return to lodge. (Breakfast / Dinner)

DAY 3. Cuyabeno

Visit the Tarapuy Siona Community where your personable naturalist guide will introduce you to the culture and traditions of these unique native people. There is the possibility of meeting a local shaman, so long as he is not doing any house calls in other regions of the forest!  Return to camp. Evening canoe expedition in search of caimans. (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)

DAY 4. Cuyabeno - Lago Agrio - Quito

Early morning rise to enjoy top-notch bird watching. Navigation along the Cuyabeno River back to El Puente. Transfer to Lago Agrio. Return to Quito by plane or bus. (Breakfast / Box Lunch)

Booking Policies


To confirm a reservation, a 30% deposit is required, payable within 3 days after booking.
Full payment is required 30 days before departure.


Cancellations received 30 days before departure, the deposit will not be refunded.
If received 29 to 15 days before departure, 50% will be charged.
If received 14 days or less before departure, full payment will be charged.
If you cancel the trip due to health or climatic reasons, we will help you resechedule, but no refunds will apply.

Passengers must be in optimal condition to fully carry out the activities. Exploring the area involves the use of small motorized boats, and sometimes it may be necessary to make wet landings. Daily excursions may include walking on uneven terrain. Embarking and disembarking boats occasionally requires a certain amount of physical effort. Hiking activities can last up to an hour. Malaria medication and yellow fever vaccine are not required for travelers visiting the region.


We recommend that you purchase trip insurance to cover for missed flights, lost luggage, medical emergencies, or other non-refundable payments.


Should Samona Lodge be in the process of inspections, remodeling, etc., we reserve the right to replace it with another lodge. In the event that travelers do not take this option, we reserve the right to cancel the trip and reimburse a proration of each unused night (deducting administrative expenses), or, alternatively, a future credit will be offered.


Visits take place inside a protected area, and travelers must comply with local regulations. Naturalist guides will inform passengers of such rules. Samona Lodge reserves the right to deny access to these areas to any passenger who ignores or breaches these regulations; or verifying the availability of the community.


Every effort will be made to meet the dietary requirements of travelers when advised in advance. These will be subject to the availability of products in the area.
