Tour departing Tuesday & Saturday

Departure from Quito to the northern Otavalo region. En route, we will savor Ecuadorian bizcochos – oven-baked biscuits served with cheese and/or brown sugar spread.

By then, we would have already crossed the equator into the Northern Hemisphere, with Mt Cayambe in the distance, the only snowcap in the world that straddles latitude zero and, at almost 20,000 feet (6,000 meters) above sea level, surpasses Mt Everest, geodetically speaking.

Just before Otavalo, we will stop at Miralago for a breath-taking view of iconic San Pablo Lake. Once at the market, we will not only enjoy a great variety of handcrafted items, but also the best opportunities to take photos of the natives, dressed in bursting colors.

You can stay longer in Otavalo for shopping, or continue to Cotacachi for the best in leatherworks and at incredibly low prices. On the way, we will stop in Peguche at a traditional Andean musical instruments workshop, as well as a local textile and handicraft workshop.

We return to Quito via a different route to enjoy even more of the farmlands over impressive topography.
