Tour Location

DAY 1. Cusco - Soraypampa

Pick-up at your hotel for a 3-hour journey to the village of Mollepata (9,515 feet / 2,900 meters above sea level) for breakfast at a local restaurant, while food and camping equipment are gathered and loaded on horseback in preparation for our 8-hour hike. Half way on our route we stop at Cruzpata for lunch and downtime. The remaining 4 hours gets us to Soraypampa campsite at 12,631 feet / 3,850 meters above sea level. (Lunch / Dinner)

DAY 2. Soraypampa - QollPapampa

Today is another wonderful 8-hour trek. Snow-capped Salkantay and Humantay are visible during the first half of this exciting sojourn before crossing the Apacheta Pass, our highest point at 15,091 feet (4,600 meters) above sea level. We descend to Qollpapampa with a lunch stop along the way. Once at the campsite at 10,170 feet (3,100 meters), we´ll enjoy a well-deserved soak in the local hot springs. (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)

DAY 3. Qollpapampa - Lucmabamba

We trek down towards the warmer climate at the village of Lucmabamba, enjoying pristine flora and fauna in this semi-tropical jungle, including giant hummingbirds and wild orchids. We will also sample local passion fruits and oranges against a background of dramatic waterfalls. At 8,700 feet (2,650 meters) above sea level, your campsite will be set up. (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)

DAY 4. Lucmabamba - Aguas Calientes

We continue our hike through coffee plantations to Llactapata, a mere 8,700 feet (2,650 meters) from where we can see the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu in the distance. After lunch we hike for 2 hours to the hydroelectric station and board the train to the town of Aguas Calientes (45 minutes). Here we will be at 6,560 feet / 2,000 meters above sea level. After checking into our hotel and enjoying a hot shower, we will be ready to gather for dinner. (Breakfast / Lunch)

DAY 5. Aaguas Calientes - Machu Picchu / Cusco

We start the day with a typical Peruvian buffet breakfast before boarding the early bus up to Machu Picchu for a private tour, followed by time to re-enter and explore the ruins on your own. By noon, we will take the bus back to Aguas Calientes and then return to Cusco by train. (Breakfast) Consider doing a tour extension to Titicaca Lake.
