Quito and the Equator

Colonial Quito, ½ day

Quito is a wonderful introduction to your Ecuadorian vacation. See historical Plaza Grande where the first Spanish homes were erected, a forgotten cloister with intriguing interiors, dazzling gold-covered La Compañía Church (considered one of the wonders of the world), bustling San Francisco Square (featured in National Geographic Traveler Magazine), a bird's-eye view atop Panecillo Hill, plus some more great surprises not found in guidebooks. Or you can also choose to see Quito in the evening, as it sleeps amid its delicately illuminated church squares and colonial public buildings. How about adding lunch or dinner at a native restaurant full of local charm and delicious food! Note: We also cater to any special dietary requirements or preferences, so no one is left out!

The Equator, ½ day

Ecuador is named for the equator it straddles. Experience an interactive, open-air museum that proves you’re on latitude zero, plus a forgotten village where the original 1936 monument awaits you, away from all the tourist crowds. Add lunch at a nearby typical native restaurant, either just North or South of the equator – choose your hemisphere!

We suggest:

1. Quito or Equator plus lunch.
2. Quito and Equator plus lunch.
3. Quito by night with dinner.

Andean cable car, ½ day

Touch the sky! From Quito’s 2,850 meter (9,200 ft) plateau, climb to 4,100 m (13,365 ft) above sea level – via the new Aerial Tram for a spectacular bird’s-eye view of the city. Weather-permitting, you can scan the famed Avenue of the Volcanoes, including Cayambe (5,790 m/19,100 ft), Antisana (5,758 m/18,980 ft.) and Cotopaxi (5,897 m/19,700 ft). High above, you will realize you are indeed right on top the Andes Mountains!
