Easy Inca Trail

Easy Inca Trail, 2 days

This shorter version of the traditional Inca Trail is the perfect option for travelers who want to combine visits to cultural attractions and hiking, but have limited time. We hike from KM. 104 to the ruins of Wiñaywayna (last campsite for regular hikers), and continue crossing over the mountains up to Inti Punku (Sun Gate), where we get a fabulous view over Machu Picchu. From here we take the bus down to the town of Aguas Calientes where we spend the night. The next day, we take the first bus up to visit Machu Picchu. We provide the gear and arrange the logistics, so all you need is a daypack and your luggage.

Day 1: Cusco - Chachabamba / Wiñaywayna / Machu Picchu
We take the train early in the morning and wind up at Km 104, the starting point of our trek. Crossing the Urubamba River on footbridge, we check-in with park rangers at the control point and continue our hike to the archaeological site of Chachabamba, at an elevation of 2,150 meters or 7,100 feet. From here we ascend a hill for about 2 hours until we reach a beautiful secluded waterfall and in a few more minutes we arrive at the fascinating archaeological site of Wiñaywayna at 2,650 m (8,694 ft). After we explore these ancient ruins, we continue to hike through the semitropical cloud forest until we cross over the mountain through Inti Punku (Sun Gate) to get our first glimpse of Machu Picchu. After a short hike down, we will stay to enjoy the late afternoon before we descend by bus to Aguas Calientes for a comfortable night in our hotel and optional bathing in the local hot springs.

Day 2: Machu Picchu / Cusco
After an early breakfast, we will take the first bus up to Machu Picchu to enjoy the magic of the sunrise and a private guided tour. After the tour, you are free to explore the ruins on your own. In the afternoon, we return to Aguas Calientes by bus, then on to Cusco by train and private vehicle.
